Why are we looking for College Coaches and former athletes?
At GH we are coaching our clients in a one-on-one environment to improve their lives and change their behaviors; inside and outside of our gym facility. We have found that collegiate coaches who are also former athletes have the passion, work ethic, tenacity, patience, listening skills, commitment and patience to consistently bring out the best in others. We are seeking college coaches because we are seeking successful leaders who understand the power of teamwork, value their physical well being, and are exceptional and committed to helping others be champions.
How is GH different from classical personal training?
It’s hard to know where to start! GH School for Healthy Living is driven by our commitment to help others using the best scientific methods to achieve behavior change inside and outside of the gym facility. It is not a philosophy but a science that we apply using scientific methods. Our Coaches do not have to sell any services (but will get full, 40-hour per week schedules), and our clients come prepared to change their lives and to simply “look better at the beach.” We work with clients who want to improve their health and life, and we set tremendously high expectations of our Coaches as authority figures before any client ever starts with GH. Our average client retention is measured in YEARS (not sessions) because of the remarkable results clients get.
GH Coaches are managed and evaluated based on how effectively they can change the lives of their clients for the better. GH coaches work closely with their team and have a structured curriculum that they customize and then apply to each client, which means GH coaches have time to focus on the psychology of their clients, and not writing workout programs. All GH coaches participate in our internal training and development program, not only when they begin but at least two hours per week every week forever. Our most talented and experienced coaches advance to become GH 360 Coaches which offers exciting career advancement and even more potential to impact clients’ lives.
What are the similarities between being a GH Coach and a college coach?
The reality of coaching a college team is that much of the important work happens one-on-one. Coaches must be aware of the mindset, attitude, commitment and psychology of each of their players in order to help those players achieve their best. We are training our clients’ physical body through personal training sessions while we are becoming an expert in their psychology so we can help them on their path towards better health. College coaches and GH coaches are focused on winning, but at GH we define “winning” as helping our clients improve their performance in the game of life.
What are the major differences?
We asked our former Division I coaches what they thought the biggest differences were, and here is their top 5:
1. Clients at GH are serious people who want your help. They are ready for change and appreciative of the work that you do with them.
2. The lifestyle of a GH Coach is much more consistent. You know your schedule and you never have to travel. It is much easier to build a long-term life with friends and family.
3. You have only adult conversations all week, every week.
4. You can focus on the best part of coaching – helping others be champions. There are no distractions.
5. You are expected and managed to change people’s lives for the better. That is the goal of the business and of each client, not the accident that happens between practices and games.
What does it mean to be on the GH team?
It is a privilege to be surrounded by such a passionate and committed group of Coaches who work so hard to help others be champions. We all practice what we preach, which means physical training, eating healthy, understanding our own psychology, and constantly developing as professionals. We are working together to change the people around us, and that change must start inside ourselves so that we can truly understand what we are asking of others. Each team member works hard individually and we work even harder to support each other. Each week, there are team meetings (yes, that’s plural!) where we discuss the curriculum, share client progress and challenges, and share advice with each other so that we can always get better at what we do. Being on the team requires tenacity, communication and listening skills, a passion for self-improvement, a commitment to helping others, willingness to work hard and an open-mind. We are never done learning and growing as individuals and as a team.
Do we have any current openings? How do I apply?
Frankly, we are always looking for top talent as we generally have a wait-list of prospective clients and are constrained by finding truly talented team members, not clients. Thus, even if we do not have any currently published positions but you feel that GH is the right place for you, then feel free to send your resume and information to us at careers@ghfitness.com and we will then invite select candidates into our interview process.
If we have currently published positions, then they will be listed here:

What are the qualifications for the GH coaching job?
We hire talented individuals with a proven track record for excellence as an effective leader (coach) and as an effective follower (player). We require a four year college education, excellent inter-personal skills, a serious commitment to healthy living, and a passion for helping others. We do not require specific coursework in Kinesiology or a personal training certification as we have an extensive in-house training program and we follow a consistent model at GH so external training certifications are often not helpful. We will consider resumes from “non-coaches” but still look for a track record of success in psychology, nutrition or fitness. For example, our last non-coach hire was the former head Athletic Trainer of the women’s NBA team in Chicago.
